Specimen Type Tissue, sputum, corneal scrapings, body fluids or exudates.
Preferred Collection Volume 1 mL
Minimum Collection Volume 1 mL
Collection Instructions
Specimen Handling Send immediately to Microbiology. Stability (collection to initiation of testing): ambient: 1 week; refrigerated: 1 week; frozen: unacceptable.
Rejection Criteria Nonsterile or leaking containers. Swabs, blood or bone marrow. Specimens submitted in guaze.Blood or frozen tissue: specimen in viral transport (including, but not limited to M4, M5, nasal swab, wood shaft or charcoal swab, catheter tip.
Methodology Microscopy
Reference Range Negative for fungal elements.
