Description Detect Nocardia and other aerobic actinomycetes.
Specimen Requirements 
Container Sterile plastic container, Syringe (without needle).
Specimen Type Respiratory specimens, tissue, fluid, or aspirate.
Preferred Collection Volume 5 mL
Minimum Collection Volume 0.5 mL
Collection Instructions Fluid or aspirate in a sealed, sterile container. For tissue, submit in a sterile container with moist gauze.
Specimen Handling Stability (collection to initiation of testing): ambient: 1 hr; refrigerated: 3 days; frozen: unacceptable.
Rejection Criteria Frozen, leaking or nonsterile containers.
