Description Gold standard test to diagnose fungi as agent of infection in blood.
Specimen Requirements 
Container Adult:10 mL Isolator tube, Green heparin collection tube, pediatric: 1.5 mL isolator tube.
Specimen Type Whole blood, bone marrow
Preferred Collection Volume Blood: adult: 10 mL; pediatric: 1 mL; bone marrow: 1 mL.
Minimum Collection Volume Blood: adult: 1 mL; pediatric blood: 0.5 mL; bone marrow: 0.5 mL
Collection Instructions Aseptically collect and deliver within 16 hours of collection. Mix tube to prevent clotting.
Specimen Handling Critical to transport at ambient temp (20-25° C).
Rejection Criteria Specimen refrigerated, frozen, less than minimum volume submitted.
