Description Not recommended as a standalone test. If using serology testing, IgM combined with IgG is preferred. Do not use for diagnosis in immunocompromised individuals. Preferred test for detecting CMV infection is quantitative PCR.

Preferred Collection Volume 0.5 ml
Minimum Collection Volume 0.2 ml
Collection Instructions Acute and convalescent specimens must be labeled as such; parallel testing is preferred and convalescent specimens must be received within 30 days from receipt of the acute specimens. Mark specimens plainly as "acute" or "convalescent".
Specimen Handling Serum refrigerated - 48 hours
Serum frozen - 14 days
Rejection Criteria Plasma or urine.
