Description Fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) is performed to detect aneuploidy for chromosomes 3, 7 and 17 and loss of the 9p21 locus.

Collection Instructions Freshly collected urine in a bladder washing in a sealed, properly labeled vial with preservative (eg. Preservcyt). The specimen must be received in the lab within 72 hours of collection.
Specimen Handling Transport refrigerated to lab within 24 hrs of collection; specimen in PreservCyt is recommended to be in lab within 72 hours.
Rejection Criteria Frozen specimen
Methodology Fluorescent labeled DNA probes for the centromere region
